December 6, 2011

We're rapidly reaching the end of this year and planning for 2012. Here are some of the training matters we have on the drawing board. Starting on January 12 we plan to have some Basic Computer Training classes. Donna Copeland will be our main instructor for these sessions. We will be announcing the classes in the Leisure World News - you will need to register with E&R and pay the upfront fee. We also plan to hold some Internet training classes - the time and date is yet to be set for these. We will be resuming what we refer to as our "Drop-in" sessions. These are sessions dedicated to specific topics. For these there is no fee but there will be a slight charge to copying the handouts. For more information about the Dropin sessions, take a look at the bulletin board in the rear of the room. This bulletin board also displays various other pieces of information to help you with your computer learning skills. For example, take a look at the paper discussing how to work with flash drives.

Here's some information about a free seminar. The Microcenter store in Rockville will be holding a seminar on Windows 7 on Saturday, January 7 and Sunday, Januasry 8 at 2:00 pm. There is no fee for this seminar, just show up and take a seat. I have attended several of their seminars and have come away with some valuable information.

For those of you new to the Center, we hold Open Labs from 9:30 to 11:30 and 1:30 to 3:30 on various days during the month. Take a look at our monthly schedule posted on our door and also on our bulletin board in the back of the room. During the rest of the days in a particular month the Center is open from 9:30 to 11:30 am and 1:30 to 3:30 pm. These sessions are handled by our volunteer monitors who open the Center and can render some basic help if you need it. For more information about the Computer Center, take a look at our website, www.computerctr.org.

If you are relatively new to our Center actvities, drop by and someone will be able to give you some information about what we have to offer and when various activities will take place. Be sure to take a look at the bulletin board at the rear of the Center for more information. If you would like to volunteer to be one of our monitors, let us know and we'll get you in the loop.

When you come in to use the Center facilities, please sign in at the desk in the rear of the room. Occasionally we have some signup sheets for Dropin sessions there so we can plan for dates to hold these sessions.
